I fly these things for a living and Let me take some of your valuable time and tell you just how Effed up it is to shine a laser at a plane. Very, and I can’t even emphasize how very it is. At ten-thousand-feet there is enough energy in that green laser to blind a pilot at the worst and at least divert his concentration during approach to landing enough to cause traffic conflicts with other planes. At lower altitudes in the traffic pattern? permanent blindness is possible-resulting in permanent rage.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Near an airport, especially NY or LA or Atlanta or any high density airport, we operate up to 3 miles distant from other planes all trying to fly the same route and land on the same runway. Any deviation of that is a serious safety hazard. Your green laser in my cockpit window will cause that to happen. In the absolute best case scenario, just in case you were wondering about getting away with it, involves me telling traffic control exactly where you lit me up from, using my GPS, and they immediately tell the police and it’s not like they respond to a shooting in five minutes, its just about faster. They crawl over the neighborhood. The FBI is involved. That’s the best case scenario. Worst case? I go blind and hop[e to god my first-officer didn’t as well so he can land the plane.
Quit screwing around with lasers at planes. It can permanently screw up my ability to see and continue to fly for a living and then I will loose my house and my family due to loss of income and come around your town looking for you with my one good eye and burn your dog alive in front of your kids.

Come on man, don’t set the dog on fire. What did the dog do? Why not steal the dog and have it love you more than them?

Soooooo, where does this leave my laser pointer drone creation?
In all seriousness, I think they need to air some radio and TV spots to get people to quit it. I bet most people don’t realize what is happening.

I can't remember if I have offered or not, but if you find yourself in Atlanta with some time I'd be happy to show you around the hangar. An easy walk out from the international terminal.

There’s always downsides to every job, no matter how awesome they are perceived to be. For example, getting shot in the face with green lasers.

Absolutely. Next time I get a layover that is. ATL has been a bit rare on the schedule lately.
